Research area: microbial ecology, microbial food web, microbial diversity, cycling and turnover of organic matter, bacterial interactions with algae and zooplankton, symbiosis, parasitism, biofilms, macroscopic organic aggregates

Research Strategy: Research on microbial ecology in combination of field and laboratory work as well as of classical microbiological (isolation and cultivation) and modern molecular techniques (real time PCR, PCR, DGGE, sequencing), production/respiration measurements, and analytical methods (HPLC, TOC analyser etc.).

Projects: BIOACID, ESF/DFG-FREDI, Terralac, REAL, DFG_Aquashift, DFG-Tiefwarensee, DFG-Seiches, DFG-Reactive Oxygen Species
