Equal Opportunities Officer

In order to warrant equal opportunities for women and men the IGB is committed to strictly follow the Research-Oriented Standards on Gender Equality of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG.

Work/Family Life Balance
To enhance the compatibility of work and childcare, IGB set up a parent-child-room in 2007. A childcare service close to the institute has not been considered a necessity by the employees. The IGB seminars start at 2.00 pm to better allow for the regular attendance by female and male employees who are responsible for the care of children and/or other relatives.
A flexible work time schedule is in place. In addition, employees can individually request a shift in their core working hours to meet their familial obligations. A business agreement regarding telecommuting options enables employees to care for their dependents at home in emergency situations. Both female and male scientists at the IGB equally utilize the option for parental leave.

Careerdevelopment
IGB strategically supports the increase of the proportion of female scientists in leadership positions: First, IGB specifically supports female scientists after the successful completion of their PhD and, second, IGB locates qualified female candidates for open positions at the IGB outside the institute.

The IGB has therefore committed itself to increase the number of female post-docs and has developed a specific program. Here we support both women and men in their transition from parental leave to the workplace, female Ph.D. for visiting another scientific institution, to acquire innovative techniques ore for funding whereby priority is placed specifically on career development. An elected equal opportunity committee, led by the equal opportunity representative, has full responsibility to use the budget for the implementation.
