Dr. Erika B. Martínez Ruiz
Water pollution and the invisible life in water
Thousands of tiny organisms live in our lakes and rivers, even though we cannot see them. They are essential for healthy ecosystems, but what happens when pollutants enter the water? Erika Martinez Ruiz investigates how pollutants such as pesticides, metals and cigarette-butt chemicals affect these microscopic organisms and their interactions. Come and discover why this invisible world matters.
Dr. Elsa Anderson
Integrating art into urban biodiversity science
Elsa Anderson is an American urban ecologist working at Freie Universität on a Humboldt fellowship. She will discuss her research on social drivers of urban biodiversity, including her current research examining distributional and thematic patterns in urban art as a way to understand collective information about local perceptions of nature and biodiversity themes. She aims to find ways to foster nature connections and knowledge for people in cities.
