The main objective of this project is to identify the key-factors of organic matter turnover in inundated peatlands. Based on our findings we might improve our predictions regrading the restoration of degraded peatlands.
FIThydro addresses the decision support in commissioning and operating hydro-power plants (HPP) through the use of existing and innovative technologies and the integration of ecological, technical, economic and societal perspectives to improve sustainable hydropower use at a maximum mitigation of ecological impacts.
Climate change affects not only air temperature and precipitation, but also our streams and rivers: water temperature is rising, river flow characteristics are changing, oxygen concentration is sinking, while nutrient concentrations increase. This is not without consequence for the plants and animals living in freshwaters.
The aim of this proposal is to analyze the impact of storms on phytoplankton communities through joint analysis of meteorological, limnological and phytoplankton data from 21 lakes located in the US, Canada (the majority), Europe, Israel and Japan.
