Citizen Science – Innovation in Open Science, Policy and Society

Citizen Science, the voluntary engagement in research, has both a long tradition in biodiversity research and is experiencing a revival with modern technologies becoming available. In my talk I will discuss how citizen science can provide innovation to scientific endeavours as well as to enhanced relevance for research for society and policy, using case studies across Europe, and how - by design – citizen science programmes can be enhanced to provide useful biodiversity research output.
