How does the spatial distribution of functional diversity compare to that of species diversity, and to which degree are these two facets spatially congruent or disparate? In the proposed project we will address this question in the Western Balkans and all 29 amphibian species found in this region by employing latest network-based species distribution models to create a solid baseline regarding their range-wide habitat suitability estimates, range size, and geographic rarity in the region. In a subsequent step, we will explore the trait diversity of these species by computing functional diversity and rarity estimates. By combining the suite of indices stemming from these two diversity facets, we will then employ spatial prioritisation tools to highlight those areas in the Western Balkans that stand out in high species and functional diversity, rarity and uniqueness.
