The overall aim of REFORM is to provide a framework for improving the success of hydromorphological restoration measures to reach, in a cost-effective manner, target ecological status or potential of rivers.

Vegetation effects on water flow and mixing in high-latitude ecosystems

Our surface and groundwaters struggle with a variety of different pressures, like water shortage, flow regulation, straightening or sediment and nutrient loading. The project MARS analyses how the combination of these stressors impacts aquatic ecosystems and their functions.

We analyse the effects of wind-induced mixing on phytoplankton development in the shallow lake Tai near Shanghai.

The DASTMAP project develops and applies new genetic markers to characterize four in the Danube River endangered sturgeon species as a prerequisite for sustainable fisheries and conservation management.

RESI assesses, evaluates and visualizes the actual as well as potential services to the human society provided by ecosystems of rivers and their floodplains. 

The killing of even single specimen might be of species conservation legal relevance, so fish mortality at hydropower plants. This project aimed to establish the Mortality Hazard Index as standardized assessment system for the legally relevant mortality risk of species also for the group of fishes and lampreys.   

The MoMo III project works towards the development and implementation of an integrated water resources management (IWRM) for a Mongolian model region.
