Clean-up at Lake Müggelsee

From car tires to toy guns – during the garbage collection campaign at Lake Müggelsee, all of this was fished out of the water. I Photo: Nadja Neumann

We have swept our own front door today: The "IGB-Ökis" from the Voluntary Ecological Year, together with the committed technicians of IGB, have cleared the banks of Lake Müggelsee of the rubbish. The fact that they would fill so many sacks was astonishing to everyone and curious finds were also fished out. A heartfelt thank you to all those who were active!

A Voluntary Ecological Year or internship at IGB is always full of variety. Alina Heide is currently doing a Voluntary Ecological Year at IGB and describes her experiences: "I take care for the Arapaimas and sturgeons in the aquarium hall. In the laboratory I learn how to work scientifically. I can apply the knowledge I have gained in my own little project. So far I have been able to participate in many exciting and interesting activities, including fish-sampling in Lake Müggelsee, taking samples in Bautzen and visiting the research facilities at the Humboldt Universität. The knowledge and the practical relevance prepare me well for my planned studies in biology."
