Jens Krause welcomed to the Academia Europaea

Prof. Dr. Jens Krause, Head of the Department of Fish Biology, Fisheries, and Aquaculture at IGB, has been elected to the Academia Europaea. Founded in 1988, the Academia Europaea brings together leading researchers from the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and engineering. It now has over 5,500 members, including researchers from Europe or those educated in Europe, among them 88 Nobel laureates.

Jens Krause was elected to the Academy in recognition of his outstanding work as a behavioural ecologist. He is a professor of fish ecology at IGB and Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (HU Berlin). He is also a member of the executive board of the Cluster of Excellence “Science of Intelligence,” at HU Berlin and Technical University of Berlin. Furthermore, Jens Krause is part of the interdisciplinary working group “Responsibility: Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence” at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities.

The Academia Europaea is committed to raising public awareness of research and the European scientific landscape, thereby promoting greater appreciation for these fields. The Academy also advises governments and international organisations on matters related to the European scientific landscape. A key focus of the Academy is promoting interdisciplinary and international collaboration across all fields of knowledge, particularly with regard to topics of European relevance. To this end, the Academy identifies relevant issues and develops appropriate proposals for scholarly engagement. In doing so, it promotes excellence in teaching, research and education in Europe.

Commenting on his invitation to the Academia Europaea, Jens Krause said: “I look forward to exploring a broader range of opportunities for collaboration and exchange with European colleagues.”
