Lynn Govaert awarded in the Leibniz Programme for Women Professors

Lynn Govaert is studying how evolutionary and ecological processes affect aquatic organisms. The work of the IGB research group leader is now being additionally supported for five years by the Leibniz Programme for Women Professors. This is aimed at women in all disciplines who have an outstanding international track record.

IGB researcher Dr Lynn Govaert is one of four female scientists who are being funded this year as part of the Leibniz Programme for Women Professors and she will start a professorship by the end of the year.

“With the Leibniz Programme for Women Professors, the Leibniz Association not only promotes equality and scientific excellence, but also the networking and strategic cooperation of Leibniz institutions with universities”, said the President of the Leibniz Association, Martina Brockmeier. As part of the program, both outstanding female scientists can be recruited to the Leibniz Association and excellent female scientists already working at Leibniz Institutes can be supported in their next career step. Following their appointment, the four female scientists will receive a total of around 3.9 million euros in funding over a period of five years and will receive additional funds from co-financing from their Leibniz Institutes.

Lynn Govaert intends to use the funding to strengthen her research on how multi-stressor environmental change affects the density-trait dynamics of species. In the project, her team will measure the trait evolution of multiple species and test whether its ecological impact can be predicted. "Thanks to the funding, I will be closely integrated into joint university and non-university research networks. I am particularly looking forward to these collaborations. Furthermore, the funding gives me the opportunity to realize my research ideas", she said on the occasion of her award.
