IGB is Germany’s largest research centre for inland waters and one of the world’s leading institutions in this field. It is also one of the oldest institutions in this field. The roots of its predecessor institutions can be traced back to the end of the 19th century. Today, we are dedicated to understanding, sustainably using and conserving rivers, lakes and small bodies of water, as well as the organisms that inhabit them.
Anyone with an interest in water and water bodies is therefore warmly invited, whether professionally, in their leisure time or in the classroom. The event is also aimed at individuals interested in pursuing a career in science or administration, those seeking a subject for their final thesis, those considering completing a compulsory internship or a Voluntary Ecological Year (FÖJ), and those who are simply curious.
The programme includes guided tours, talks, an exhibition, a careers fair and activities for teachers and environmental education practitioners, as well as open laboratories and facilities. The opening talk begins at 3:30 pm. All programme items are open throughout the event.
The venue is the IGB site at Müggelseedamm 310 in Berlin-Friedrichshagen, right on the shores of Lake Müggelsee. Admission is free.
