Skyglow, die diffuse Aufhellung des Nachthimmels durch Kunstlicht, ist ein Phänomen, das in der Evolutionsgeschichte erstmalig auftritt. Auf Seeökosysteme wirkt Skyglow zusammen mit einer anderen Folge des globalen
Wandels, der zunehmenden Braunfärbung des Wassers durch Huminstoffe. Wir wollen herausfinden, welche ökologischen Konsequenzen diese Phänomene haben und welche Mechanismen ihnen zugrunde liegen.

Unsere Gewässer und ihre Ökosysteme haben mit vielfältigen Belastungen, Wasserknappheit, Stauung, Begradigung oder Sediment- und Nährstoffeinträgen zu kämpfen. Das Projekt MARS untersucht, wie sich die Kombination dieser Stressoren  auf die aquatischen Ökosysteme und ihre Umweltfunktionen auswirken.
