Experience an extraordinary journey into the depths of freshwater life at our interactive session, where science and art are beautifully intertwined. In the session, you’ll be immersed in an underwater world, surrounded by complete darkness to simulate the natural night-time environment beneath the water surface. A light installation will reveal the transition from natural light and sound conditions to human-made disturbances. The sound and light installation captures the rhythm of waves, the turbulence of passing boats, and the shifting light both above and below the water. Accompanied by a live experiment illustrating the impact of light and noise pollution on aquatic ecosystems, with a focus on sensitive organisms like zooplankton, this multisensory experience brings the invisible to light.

Following this, we invite you to join an interactive discussion: How did you perceive the sounds and lights? What do you think lies behind them? Artists and scientists, including sound artist Francisca Rocha Goncalves and freshwater researchers, will join the conversation, offering insights into the experience.

The session culminates in a night-time excursion along the banks of Holzmarkt: Equipped with a hydrophone and light measurement devices, we will explore the river’s sound and light landscape in real-time.

Immerse yourself, be inspired, and discover how deeply connected life underwater is with our own!
